Our Mission

To provide services to those in need; to advocate compassion and justice in the structures of society; and to call all people of good will to do the same.

photoCatholic Charities Diocese of Fort Worth, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving this community since 1910. The organization was founded to serve the poor and children in need. Since 1910, Catholic Charities has grown to provide socials services, working to strengthen families, reduce infant mortality, resettle refugee families, assist the elderly and disabled, and prevent child abuse. With a diverse range of programs, Catholic Charities assisted over 91,000 individuals, families and children in 2006, regardless of their faith traditions. This is an increase in services of 25% from 2005 and an increase of 156% since 2000.

Each year, more than 90 cents of every dollar goes directly to serving those in need.

2006 Program Outcomes

Children's Services

  • photoSince 1987, the Assessment Center has been a haven for children in need. Each year, the Assessment Center provides safe, 24-hour, emergency shelter to children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. In 2006, Catholic Charities sheltered 138 abused and neglected children.
  • Each year, Catholic Charities recruits, trains, licenses and supports foster families. In 2006, our 18 families provided safe, loving and supportive shelter to 102 foster children.
  • Catholic Charities intervenes in families where abuse is present and works with families at risk of abuse and neglect. Over 700 individuals and families received abuse prevention services from Catholic Charities in 2006, promoting positive parenting and family stability.

Family Services

  • Catholic Charities offers clinical counseling services on a sliding scale. Over 1,600 individuals, families and children received clinical counseling services in 2006.
  • Catholic Charities works with families in crisis to meet basic needs and help families achieve self sufficiency. Programs also collaborate with area service providers to assess and respond to community needs, and provide a Christmas to children who would otherwise go without. . In 2006, over 9,500 area families received emergency financial assistance from Catholic Charities.

Health Services

  • The Lady Hogan Project provides free comprehensive services to women, children, youth and families infected with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS in Tarrant, Johnson, Parker, Wise, Erath, Palo Pinto, Somervell, and Hood counties. In 2006, 195 children and families received case management, support group services, transportation, medical care coordination, and advocacy through Catholic Charities.
  • Catholic Charities leads efforts to reduce infant mortality in our community by coordinating collaboration efforts with over 13 area agencies in the Tarrant County Infant Mortality Task Force.
  • In 2006, Catholic Charities provided application and eligibility assistance to over 35,000 families enrolling their children in the Texas Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Housing Services for the Elderly and Disabled

  • Catholic Charities offers safe, affordable, independent housing to low income elderly and disabled adults in our community.
  • In 2006, over 600 men and women secured housing through Catholic Charities, many of whom were facing homelessness.
  • Catholic Charities offers housing services in Fort Worth, Arlington and Stephenville.

Refugee and Immigration Services

  • photoSince 1983, Catholic Charities has been recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals. In 2006, Catholic Charities assisted over 4,500 individuals reunite with their families through legal, affordable immigration consultation services.
  • Catholic Charities offers professional translation services in over 40 languages throughout Tarrant County
  • 35 refugee families were resettled in Tarrant County by Catholic Charities in 2006.

Disaster Response Services

  • Catholic Charities continues to offer long term case management services to families impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita of 2005.
  • Texas has become home to tens of thousands of people impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, over 2,500 of these individuals and families were assisted by Catholic Charities.
  • Catholic Charities is working with the Diocese of Fort Worth to develop and put in place an efficient, well-designed disaster preparedness and response plan for our 28 county Diocese.
